Girato a Cork, in Irlanda, il video indaga le zone di contatto tra la città e la periferia suburbana, le cosiddette aree improduttive, marginali, gli spazi interstiziali, i passaggi alternativi a quelli previsti dal piano urbanistico. Questo scenario – a ridosso del quartiere popolare di Knocknahaeeny dove vive una comunità di travellers, i Rom irlandesi – che pare travolto da una costante guerriglia urbana, diventa il luogo di ritrovo per i bambini del posto. Come in un western, muri, rottami, recinzioni, cavalli allo stato brado diventano terreno di gioco. Mentre la notte dei falò, un antico rituale celtico celebrato in occasione del solstizio d’estate, diventa l’occasione per una competizione tra bande rivali a chi brucerà la pira di rifiuti più alta. Per l’elevata capacità di combustione, i copertoni delle auto sono il materiale più ambito. Al tramonto, sulla collina, i falò si accendono a decine e l’aria si riempie di diossina.

Filmed in Cork, Ireland, the video investigates the contact zones between the city and the suburban periphery, the so-called unproductive, marginal areas, the interstitial spaces, the alternative passages to those foreseen by the urban plan. This scenario - close to the Knocknahaeeny working-class neighbourhood where a community of travellers, the Irish Roma, live - which seems to be engulfed in constant urban guerrilla warfare, becomes the meeting place for local children. Like in a western, walls, wreckage, fences, horses in the wild become playgrounds. While the night of the bonfires, an ancient Celtic ritual celebrated on the occasion of the summer solstice, becomes the occasion for a competition between rival gangs to see who will burn the tallest pyre of rubbish. Due to their high burning capacity, car tyres are the most coveted material. At sunset, bonfires are lit on the hillside by the dozens and the air is filled with dioxins.
