Il progetto esplora i rapporti di coesistenza tra uomo, animali, natura selvaggia e addomesticata all’interno del paesaggio finlandese, attraverso un video, due serie fotografiche e un libro. In Finlandia, fin dal 1886 lo sfruttamento delle foreste, è stato pianificato e regolamentato in maniera sistematica, selezionando alcune specie di alberi per aumentare la produttività. Nel tempo questo processo ha portato ad un drastico impoverimento della biodiversità. Ad oggi solo un’esigua porzione del manto boschivo che ricopre il paese resta intatta, anche se, a prima vista, l’apparente caoticità delle piantagioni e la ricca vegetazione possono trarre in inganno. Sopralluoghi più accurati rivelano tracce di intervento umano e di manipolazione dell´elemento naturale su molteplici livelli: l’idea di natura pura e incontaminata appare ormai anacronistica. Se da una parte, esplorando questo paesaggio, risulta quasi impossibile sfuggire alla sensazione di artificialità che ne deriva, spesso dall’altra non è facile marcare l’esatta linea di confine tra quello che può essere considerato ambiente incontaminato e territorio alterato.

The project explores the relationships of coexistence between man, animals, wild and domesticated nature within the Finnish landscape, through a video, two photographic series and a book.
Since 1886, the exploitation of forests in Finland has been systematically planned and regulated by selecting certain species of trees to increase productivity. Over time, this process has led to a drastic impoverishment of biodiversity. To date, only a small portion of the forest cover that covers the country remains intact, although at first glance, the apparent chaotic plantations and rich vegetation can be misleading. Closer inspection reveals traces of human intervention and manipulation of the natural element on multiple levels: the idea of pure and unspoilt nature now seems anachronistic. While it is almost impossible to escape the resulting feeling of artificiality when exploring this landscape, it is often not easy to mark the exact line between what can be considered pristine environment and altered territory.
