Nella fotografia, io non posso mai negare che la cosa è stata là. Vi è una doppia posizione congiunta: di realtà e di passato […] In latino tutto ciò si direbbe senza dubbio “interferita”: ciò che io vedo si è trovato là, in quel luogo che si estende tra l’infinito e il soggetto; è stato là, e tuttavia è stato immediatamente separato; è stato sicuramente, inconfutabilmente presente, e tuttavia è già differito. Roland Barthes, La camera chiara.
Archivio fotografico di immagini di collezioni private e pubbliche, che ripercorrere l’immaginario di un territorio di confine tra Polonia e Ucraina. L’operazione di catalogazione è simile a quella condotta da Hipolit Stupnicki, nell’opera enciclopedica Galicia del 1849, che ricorse a precisi censimenti topografici, di flora e fauna per delineare parametri scientifici di un’unità territoriale, i cui confini nella realtà risultavano ben più fluttuanti e meno evidenti.

Photographic archive of images from private and public collections, tracing the imagery of a border territory between Poland and Ukraine. The cataloguing operation is similar to that carried out by Hipolit Stupnicki, in his encyclopaedic work Galicia of 1849, who resorted to precise topographical, flora and fauna censuses to delineate scientific parameters of a territorial unit, whose boundaries in reality were much more fluctuating and less evident.
