Sullo sfondo delle lotte di confine tra Polonia e Ucraina, delle carneficine della Seconda Guerra mondiale e della repressione sovietica, le storie di un ex-funzionario statale, di un partigiano, di uno scrittore e di un sopravvissuto ai campi staliniani si intrecciano in un racconto a più voci che interroga il fruitore sulle implicazioni attuali dei processi di storicizzazione legate a memorie orali spesso sfuggenti e contraddittorie.

"Everything escapes us. Everyone. Even ourselves. My own existence, if I had to recount it in writing, I would reconstruct it from the outside, with difficulty, as if it were that of someone else. It is always crumbling walls, shadowy areas. Against the backdrop of the Polish-Ukrainian border struggles, the carnage of the Second World War and Soviet repression, the stories of a former state official, a partisan, a writer and a survivor of the Stalinist camps intertwine in a multi-voice narrative that questions the viewer on the current implications of the processes of historicisation linked to oral memories that are often elusive and contradictory.
